Cheer FAQS

What's the time commitment of cheering at Dodge?

The cheerleading season is year round.  After making the squad, you will practice three to four times throughout the summer.  You will also attend a collegiate cheerleading camp in late July or early August.  Once school starts, we usually have three two-hour long practices a week plus games.  We do travel for a couple of regular season football and basketball games plus all playoffs.  Once basketball season is over, you will have the opportunity to judge tryouts at various local high schols.

What are the skill requirements to make the squad?

There are no "required skills"  but I am looking for athletic cheerleaders

who are willing to learn basic stunting and tumbling techniques.

Is there a weight or size requirement?

Nope. However, as with any sport, certain physical attributes can make the sport much easier or more difficult for you. In cheerleading, stunting is easier for smaller women and stronger men. If that doesn't describe you, you could still make the squad, but your skills will have to be that much better to overcome your size/strength disadvantage.

Do you give cheerleading scholarships?

Yes, all members of the Conquistador spirit teams will receive a tuition and loan of books scholarship.  Members will need to maintain a 2.0 GPA and complete 12 credit hours

How much does it cost to attend Dodge?

As a member of the Conquistador Spirit teams, your tuition and book will be paid for.  The only cost that a member will accrue, will be fees and housing cost.  Here is a worksheet that shows you a breakdown of the cost.

When and where are tryouts?

See the Tryouts page.
