Conquistador Cheerleading Tryouts

When are Where

The 2007-2008 Conquistador cheerleading tryouts will be held May 4-5, 2007 at the Dodge City Community College gym.  This will be the main tryout for the 2007-2008 Cheerleading Squad.  We may or may not have a small fall tryout depending on whether or not we need to fill some spots. Tryouts will be performed on roll-out cheer mats.

What to Wear at Tryouts

At both days of tryouts, ladies should wear a sports bra or tight fitting tank top, athletic shorts, athletic shoes, no jewelry, and your hair should be pulled back out of your face. Men should wear a plain T-shirt, athletic shorts, and athletic shoes. Note that these requirements are for safety reasons, and also note that "Overall Image" is a part of your tryout score, so it's in your best interest to look "game-ready."

Selection Criteria

One of the most of often asked questions about tryouts is "what's required?" The answer is simple, There are no "required skills" because I won't know the talent level of the people trying out until they actually try out. Of course that's not much help to you, so here are some guidelines to work on:

Jumps (Toe touch + 2)
Motion Tech
Partner Stunting
Tumbling

Open Gyms and Clinics

Please note that tryouts aren't the time to learn new skills--it's not safe so I've only provided enough time at tryouts for people to warm up their current skills then throw what they know during the tryout.

We'll be having open gyms with the current squad at the Dodge City Community College Gym on Sunday evenings.  The college is located at 2501 N 14th in Dodge City.  As you come on to campus, you will need to park in the north parking lot.

Times and dates of the open gyms are

Sunday, April 15th 7:00-10:00 PM
Sunday, April 22nd 7:00-10:00 PM
Sunday, April 29th 7:00-10:00 PM

Dance Tryouts

Dance tryouts will be held on an individual basis. An appointment needs to be set up with the head or assistant coach prior to try out. For tryouts we ask each person to bring a 1 ½ minute long routine that highlights their strengths as a dancer.

In addition we also would like to see a toe touch, turns and a grand jete (split leap). These elements can either be incorporated into the dance routine or done separately
