GED Preparation ClassesClasses are offered in math, social studies, science, reading and writing. Students enroll in an intensive 6-8 week class that meets three nights a week—Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday—for three hours. Successful class completers will be given the official GED practice tests at the end of the session as part of the course. Classes usually are offered in Dodge City at the ALC. However, sessions are also available at the DCCC Kinsley Outreach Center depending on demand. Class sessions begin in August, October, January, and March. Persons interested in classes should call the Adult Learning Center for specific dates, times, and class location. GED Testing GED Testing is available each month in English or Spanish at the DCCC Adult Learning Center. There are five tests—social studies, science, reading, math, and writing. Tests are given over a two-day period once a month. Successful completion of the official GED practice tests (OPT) is required before being allowed to make a reservation for the official GED tests. The OPT is held every Tuesday from 2-7 p.m. The combined five practice tests take about 4-5 hours to complete while the entire official GED test series takes about 8 hours to complete. Testers should be prepared to spend the entire allotted time, which is one day for practice tests and two days for official tests, when scheduling to take GED tests. The test fee is set by the Kansas Board of Regents. Currently the fee is $68 for all five official tests. Individuals who are not enrolled in classes at the ALC will also be charged $25 to take all five practice tests. Testers must have a valid Kansas ID available at the time of testing. GED Tests are graded by a web-based scoring service, and scores are usually available within 2-3 days. A Kansas State High School diploma is awarded to those who successfully complete the GED tests. The ALC has space for a maximum of 6 GED testers at one exam time for a more relaxed testing atmosphere. Spanish testing is limited to two testers per testing session. Individuals who do not pass the GED practice tests or official GED test will be required to successfully complete a course of study before being allowed to re-test. Anyone interested in GED testing should call the GED Testing Center at the ALC. A GED examiner will be available during office hours on Tuesday 2-7 p.m. (English only) and Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Spanish and English) to give test scores, make test reservations, and help with GED test questions.
