Head Volleyball Coach Stephano Anthemides

    Coach Anthemides enters his second season at the helm of the Dodge City Community College volleyball team. Last year’s team finished the regular season 17-17 with a first round loss to the playoffs.   With victories over #11 ranked Northeastern and also #12 ranked Seward County, the conquistadors were a force in the conference.. Late injuries to key players saw the great season come to an end early. Key returners, Mallory Ratts a native of Dodge City in the Libero position and Chantal Birbaum from Switzerland as an outside hitter and with the addition of Alyse Barclay-New Zealand’s National team setter, along with key players in each position the 2012-2013 season is looking promising. “We should be able to compete at the highest level this year. We have the personnel to get the job done on the court and most importantly in the classroom”.

    Last year he saw two of his players achieve Academic all American status and his team was honored with all academic team. He also saw two of his starters achieve all conference honors.

    Before DC3 he spent two seasons at Butler Community College in El Dorado as the assistant volleyball coach. During his two seasons at Butler, the volleyball program went 51-25 and helped coach three NJCAA DII All-Americans and four all conference players. 

    Stephano began coaching in 1981, assisting in coaching the Greek Jr. Team National North Division. From 1988-97, he was the Head coach for the Wichita State Men’s Volleyball Club team. During this time he was also coaching local club teams in the Heart of America Region. In 2008 Stephano was an assistant head coach at Heights High School, resulting a City League Title, the first in 27 years, and a fourth place finish at 6A State. 

    His experience not only at the local level but also on the international level is very wealthy. He played for the Greek Team National North Division Youth League beginning in 1973. He then played on the Greek Team National North Division from 1977-79.  Then for the Athletic Attic Volleyball Club in Wichita Kansas from 1983-86 with an appearance at Men’s Nationals in 1986. 

    Stephano has been a part of USAV community for a number of years. In collaboration with USAV he has developed a junior boy’s team in the Wichita and surrounding areas. 2008 was the first year that a Wichita boy’s junior’s team Qualified for the National Tournament. He has been instrumental in starting Club 81 volleyball  - girls and boys junior’s volleyball club-consisting of fourteen junior’s teams that have been very competitive, concentrating in teaching the fundamentals of the game to young talent of all ages.

     Stephano is married to Denise and they have three children: Alex, Isaac, and Stefan. All three play competitive volleyball.

Ashley Nehls




1st Year at Dodge City Community College
High School: Hartford HS
College: Butler Community College/ Emporia State University

Coach Nehls comes to DC3 after leading three different High School programs.  Nehls was the Head Volleyball Coach and Physical Education teacher at Emporia HS, Concordia HS, and most recently Dodge City HS.  Before starting her coaching career, Nehls was a captain for the Butler Community College Volleyball team in 2004-2006.  During her time at Butler, she led the Lady Grizzlies in Aces, and was named best all-around player her Sophomore year.  After Butler, she received her BSE in Health and Physical Education from Emporia State University.  Nehls will also teach the Drug and Alcohol Prevention Classes, as well as Personal and Community Health.  Ashley is married to Brock Nehls, Assistant Baseball Coach at DC3.  They have a daughter, Kyndal, and reside in Dodge City.
