Conqs sweep Pratt to start series

Pratt, KS (03/22/10)- The Conquistador baseball team collected a doubleheader sweep of the Pratt CC.  The Conqs knocked off the Beavers 10-6 in the opening game and followed it with an 8-4 victory in the nightcap.

The Conqs jumped out quickly to three run lead in the first inning via the long ball.  Sophomore Cole Skriver belted a two-run blast to left field after lead off hitter Zach Zdanowicz reached on a single.Two batters later, Mitch Corwin hit his team leading fifth home run to give the Conqs three run lead. After starting pitcher, Nolan Snell, surrendered a run in the bottom of the first, the Conqs once again answered via the home run.  Skriver hit his second two-run bomb in the top of the second to give the Conqs a 5-1 lead. The Conqs would add two runs in the top of the third and three more runs in the sixth inning.  Snell picks up his second victory of the season and Kyle Kegley picks up the save with two innings in relief.

In game two, the Conqs would was again jump out to a quick lead over the Beavers.  An RBI single by Mitch Corwin and a three-run blast by Rudy Krist staked the Conqs to a 4-0 lead.  Starting pitcher TJ Millspaugh would give up a two run double in the bottom of the 1st.  The Conqs responded with r.b.i. singles in the second inning by Mike Schnedar and third inning by Rick Lesperance to take a 6-2 lead. Pratt would once again score two more runs in the bottom of the third to make things interesting at 6-4.  But Millspaugh proceeded to shut down the Beavers over the next four innings and Evan Krist provided two solid innings of relief.  The Conqs would add single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to win 8-4.

With the sweep the Conqs improve their season record to 9-9 and 5-5 in the Jayhawk West.  The Conqs will head back to Pratt today to wrap up the four game series.  Game time is set for 3:00 PM
