Season Outlook

The 2008 – 2009 men’s basketball season looks to be a fun and exciting one for the Conquistadors.  The DCCC men’s basketball team will consist of some familiar faces and a lot of new faces.  Some familiar faces include point guard Cory Perkins of Ft. Worth, TX who led Region VI in assists averaging 7.4 per game last year which ranked him 11th in the country.  Along side Cory is wing/forward Nick Angelos of Goodland, KS who started 16 games as a freshman and averaged 4.4 pts and 4 rebounds per game.  Also returning at the guard spots are Dante Redmond of Wichita and South Gray HS graduate Sean Jantz.  The Conquistadors will also count on transfer Joe Wheeler and redshirt Austin Abbott who missed last year with medical problems.

With only six players returning from last year and only four of them with experience, the new players will be counted on to mature early. The new players consist of one transfer and seven freshmen.  The young Conquistador team will have size, athleticism, players that can play multiple positions on the floor and players that play hard.  The freshman will have to mature and adjust to the college game rapidly in order for the Conqs to have success early in the season.

With a lot of road games early and playing one of the harder schedules the coaching staff has ever been around the team will have to be ready every day to get better individually and has a team.  Hard work, dedication and discipline are what the coaching staff will count on daily from the team to succeed this season.  If the team buys into the system and learns to play together then the young Conqs team will have a very successful season on the floor and in the classroom.

Playing an up and down tempo will be fun to play and exciting for the fans to watch.  Coach Trenkle and Coach Johnston want to see the Civic Center packed with fans every home game. The coaches know that the way that happens is to play a hard nosed high energy type of basketball that is fun to play and enjoyable to watch.  Positivity, dedication, discipline, defense and hard work are what this team will live, eat and breath during the 2008-2009 season.  With new coaches and new players there will be an energy in the air that the city of Dodge and the college will be proud of.
