Conq soccer ends season with regional losses
Oct 26, 2011
ASHLAND — The Dodge City Community College men's and women's soccer teams ended positive seasons with a loss in the first round of regional play on Monday and Tuesday.
The women travelled to Hutchinson in a game that would prove to be too much to handle as Hutch moved onto the next playoff round with a 13-0 victory.
The Lady Conqs finish the season with a 6-7 record in the Kansas JayhawkCommunity College Conference and a 7-11 record overall. This is the best record for a Lady Conq team since 2007, which is also the last time they had advanced to the playoffs.
"This is a great start to what we are trying to do here," said head coach Tim Romanello. "Hutch is a great team that is well coached with great talent."
On the men's side, they hit the road to Coffeyville on Tuesday night as they looked to continue their late season winning burst into the postseason.
Alas, it did not happen as Dodge faced a tough Coffeyville squad and high winds, dropping the contest 2-0.
"Coffeyville is a strong side," Romanello said. "This was still a solid season though, and I am extremely proud of my team."
The men finish 8-9-2 overall and 5-6 in the KJCCC. They made the playoffs by winning their last five contests and both teams will look to build on the momentum created by their dual playoff runs this year.
