Track Team Participates in Operation Christmas Child

Nov 05, 2012

Several members of the Dodge City Community College Track and Field team helped to pack over 5300 Operation Christmas Child boxes this past Sunday at Dodge City Church of the Nazarene.  Operation Christmas Child is an outreach ministry of Samaritans Purse which is a Christian relief and evangelism organization led by Franklin Graham.  The mission of Operation Christmas Child is “to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.”  Dodge City Church of the Nazarene was the host cite where communities including Dodge City, Garden City, Minneola, and Fowler joined in the effort to put together and fill 5000 boxes to send to Children who may never receive a Christmas gift other than the ones put together Sunday evening.  “This was not a required event for our athletes”, commented Coach Melanie Smith, assistant coach of the program.  “I sent out a text to every athlete on the team letting them know about this remarkable opportunity for them to live beyond themselves, and I was tickled when several responded positively right away.  Whitney Brower, Kaden Anderson, Sydney Hudson, and Jeremy Nicholson jumped right in and alone packed over 300 boxes.  I am very proud of these athletes and their willingness to give of their time and efforts to bless a child they may never meet. I am also very blessed to be a part of a program that allows me to mentor these young adults and hopefully influence them to be a better person leaving DC3 then when they stepped on campus”.
