DODGE CITY, Kan. – The New Mexico Military Institute baseball team rallied and defeated Dodge City Community College, 8-6, in an 11-inning affair Tuesday afternoon at Cavalier Field.
The Broncos (7-14) pushed across two runs in the top of the 11th inning and held off the Conquistadors to clinch the win.
Leading 6-5 in the top of the ninth, DC3 (15-10) looked to close out the game. However, NMMI scored twice and led 7-6. In the bottom half of the ninth the Conqs responded behind Hayden Simmons’ (Wolfforth, Texas/Frenship HS) RBI groundout to force extra innings.
Giles Fox (Ashland, Kan. /Ashland HS) was tagged with the loss. He tossed three innings and allowed three hits, two runs and two walks and struck out two batters.
The Conqs scored five runs in the fifth inning.
Parker Jones (The Colony, Texas/The Colony HS) finished 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs and Simmons went 2 for 6 with two RBIs.
Chase Wilson (Altus, Okla. /Navajo HS) started for the Conqs and earned a no decision. He threw 5 2/3 innings and allowed five hits, three runs (two earned) and four walks and struck out four batters.
DC3 returns to the diamond March 22 and 23 for a four-game series with Cloud County Community College.
