LEE’S SUMMITT, Mo. – Longview swept Dodge City by scores of 8-4 and 4-3 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader.
In game one of the double-dip the Longview offense came out firing. The Lakers scored twice in the first, once in the second and twice in the third and led 5-1 after four complete innings.
In the fifth inning Haden Houska (Enid, Okla. /Enid HS) cut the lead to 5-3 with a 2 RBI double.
However, the Lakers responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning and held off the Conqs over the next two innings.
Houska finished 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Hayden Simmons (Wolfforth, Texas/Frenship HS) and Jerry Lacayo (Colorado Springs, Colo. /Cheyanne Mountain HS) each logged an RBI.
Russell Mithlo (Anadarko, Ark. /Anadarko HS) absorbed the loss. He tossed three innings and allowed six hits, five runs (three earned) and one walk and struck out one batter.
In game two of the doubleheader the Conqs’ offense had a strong first inning. Leno Ramirez (Dover, Okla./Dover HS) hit a 2-run home run and Conner Koepp (Norman, Okla./Norman HS) hit an RBI single to give DC3 a 3-0 advantage.
However, Longview slowly chipped away at the Conqs’ lead. The Lakers added a run in the third, two in the fifth and the game-winner in the sixth to complete the comeback.
Andrew Riddell (Nsw, Australia/Oakhill College) was tagged with the loss. He tossed 5 1/3 innings and allowed seven hits, four runs (three earned) and two walks and struck out one batter.
The Conqs (27-17) return to the diamond April 15 at NOC-Enid for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
