Conqs Break Century Mark In Win

DODGE CITY
The Dodge City Conquistadors had an easy time in their 119-92 victory over Raleigh's Finest Prep during Friday night action of the Pizza Hut Classic at United Wireless Arena.
How easy would you ask?
Although it was a high scoring affair, the Conqs played all of their players in both halves against outmanned Raleigh. Dodge City shot 44-of-78 (56.4 percent) from the field — many of the shots were dunks — and led by as much as 40 points in the second half. The Conqs also had 23 points off of second chances, had 28 assists and outrebounded Raleigh 62-23.
Jelani Carpenter had a double-double to lead the Conqs with 22 points — on 9-of-10 shooting — and 13 rebounds, and also blocked three shots in the win. Five other players scored in double figures in the win: Larry Beckett and Delvon Rencher with 18 apiece, George Brock and Ameer Jackson with 15 apiece and E.J. Eaves with 13.
Four players scored in double figures for Raleigh: Jabar Ray with 25, Kendall Collins 21, Shawn Bostic 20 and Rontre Purcel 19.
The Conqs (8-1) didn't allow a field goal for the first 4 1/2 minutes of the game and opened a 12-1 lead. The Conqs increased the lead to 32-12 midway through the first half and led by as much as 32 late in the stanza before holding a 64-40 lead at intermission. Dodge City shot 22-of-37 (59.5 percent) from the floor and 15-of-19 at the foul line. Carpenter had 13 points and Brock 10 to lead the Conqs' charge in the first half.
Dodge City continued to put pressure on Raleigh in the second half and extended the lead to 96-56. Ten Conqs scored in the win.
The Conqs will face Butler at 4 p.m. today in the final game of the Classic. Raleigh will battle Seward at 2 p.m.

Butler 99, Seward County 98 (2 OT)
The Butler Grizzlies made a five-point run to force overtime and didn't allow a field goal in the second overtime to beat the Seward County Saints 99-98 in a Friday afternoon game of the Pizza Hut Classic.
