2014 DC3 Cheer and Mascot Tryouts

Below is general information as it applies to tryouts for DC3. If you have any questions about this please contact Coach Jeremy at jnigh@dc3.edu or at 620-381-3292.

Clinic Date: April 26 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Tryouts: April 27 at 2 p.m.

Location: National Guard Armory: 2120 1st Ave, Dodge City, KS 67801

 

What is Coach Jeremy looking for in an athlete?

I am looking for athletes that show talent, spirit and a good attitude. Need to be able to take correction and work to apply the critic to perfect their technique. I want athletes that want to learn from me; I want to help in the transforming and growing of their skills. Having passion for what we do as cheerleaders is a desirable attribute.

Cheer Tryout Requirements

Tryout Material will include:

- Tryout Cheer*

- DC3 Fight Song*

- Dance (females only)*

- Jumps: Toe Touch and Pike.

- Tumbling: Standing and Running

- Stunting: Group and Co-ed

Stunting

Females: show proficient knowledge of stunting technique. Show stunt ability from basing to flying.

Males: show strength in being able to hold a cheerleader in the air with a group as well as in a co-ed stunt.

Tumbling

Tumbling is currently optional, but a preferred category. Must being willing to work towards gaining tumbling experience with Coach Jeremy who is a trained tumbling instructor.

Tryout Attire

Females: Soffe Shorts or equivalent athletic shorts (No windbreaker shorts). A plain T-shirt and a hair ribbon.

Males: Gym shorts and a plain t-shirt

Cheer Video Tryouts

If you are unable to come to tryouts on April 21st, you may submit a video tryout. A video submission must include:

- The Tryout Cheer* 

- The Tryout Dance*

- DC3 Fight Song*

- Jumps: Toe touch and Pike.

- 2 running tumbling passes

- 2 standing tumbling passes

- Stunts

- Minimum of 2, maximum of 6.

- Must include 1 extended stunt and 2 different dismounts.

- Show both group and co-ed stunting (if able).

Video Tryouts are due by April 21st (unless otherwise approved by Coach Jeremy). Please load your video up to Youtube and email Coach Jeremy the link at jnigh@dc3.edu.

Mascot Tryout Requirements

DC3 is currently we are looking for 2 individuals to be our mascot. Scholarships are available for individuals that would like to be a mascot for DC3.

Duties for Mascots

1) Attending assigned sporting events

2) Attending assigned non-athletic events such as: alumni gatherings, public events in Dodge City and other school-related functions.

3) Attending occasional Mascot practice sessions with Coach Jeremy to work on Mascot-related skills.

4) A Mascot is always in character whenever attending an event. 'Revealing' your identity during events to DC3 students, faculty, staff, or children is strictly prohibited. This destroys the illusion of the mascot.

Mascot Tryout Requirements

For tryouts, Mascots will have prepared a mascot skit that will be performed to music for a panel of judges. Mascot skits will be performed in the Conq suit at tryouts.

Skits requirements:

- Maximum of 2 minutes.

- Use of at least 3 different music tracks.

- Use of props.

- Must tell some sort of 'story'.

- No offensive gestures or content.

Mascot Video Tryouts

If you are unable to come to tryouts on April 21st you may submit a video tryout. You will still create a mascot skit under the same requirements as listed above, please film this skit and send it in to Tabor College.

Video tryouts are due by April 21st (unless otherwise approved by Coach Jeremy). Please load your video up to Youtube and email Coach Jeremy the link at jnigh@dc3.edu.
