Oct 11, 2011

DODGE CITY — The Dodge City Community College women's golf team took part in its second Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference-designated tournament of the fall Monday and dominated the competition, moving to 2-0 in conference play.

The Conqs' team score of 556 was 27 strokes better than second-place Barton County and 32 shots better than third-place Coffeyville.

Leading the way for the Conquistadors was freshman Jacie Scheer, who walked away with first place in Colby. She shot an 84-43 for a total of 127, good enough for a four-stroke victory over teammate Krystal Martinez, who fired a 131.

Other finishers for DC3 include Paige Bednorz (144), Maurica Smith (154) and Shanell Hensley (163). Competing individually for Dodge were Amy Stegman (132) and Samantha Larrick (159).

Scheer is now the number-one player in the Region 6 conference with her victory in the Colby tournament.

Up next for the women is a trip to Goodland to compete in the Goodland Invitational to conclude the fall schedule.
