How to Become an RA

2011-2012 Resident Assistant Staff group picture

R.A. stands for "Resident Assistant" but it means so much more than that. I explain to my staff that R.A. also stands for "Responsible Adult" because that is what is expected of all R.A.s. I know it sounds corny, but that description is very accurate. An R.A. is to be responsible for not only themselves but also for the residents they assist. They are to hold themselves to the standards of the College's Code of Conduct and Residence Life Terms and Conditions and enforce them. They are also required to be available in the evenings for office hours as well as maintain a 2.5 GPA at all times. I expect my R.A.s to hold themselves to the highest standards and to expect the best from themselves. If you are wanting a chance to learn and to gain leadership experience then I would encourage you to apply and see if you have what it takes.

* Due to KJCCC rules, no freshman athletes on scholarship or who have signed a LOI (Letter of Intent) are eligible.
