DODGE CITY, Kan. – Dodge City pounded out 10 hits and Haden Houska went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs to lift the Conquistadors past Oklahoma Panhandle JV, 6-5.
The Conqs opened the scoring in the bottom half of the third when Blaine Birdwell (Wichita, Kan./Word of Life HS) found the gap and brought home Denver Johnston (Midwest City, Okla./Midwest City HS), who reached on a double earlier in the inning.
Nick Ragias (Wichita, Kan. /Wichita East HS) then brought home Birdwell with an RBI single, and moments later Houska (Enid, Okla./Enid HS) doubled and brought home Ragias.
The Aggies pushed across three runs in their half of the fifth and notched it at 3-all.
However, the Conqs wasted little time taking the lead back.
Ragias added his second RBI with a triple and Houska hit a RBI single to give the Conqs a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
“Today was more about getting some guys at-bats who haven’t been getting regular at- bats,” DC3 coach Phil Stephenson said. “We were able to get out bullpen some work which they needed and I thought we played well on defense.”
Chase Wilson (Altus, Okla. /Navajo HS) earned the win for the Conqs. He threw a perfect game in four innings of work. He allowed no runs, no, hits and no walks.
“We are going to have to use him a little bit more,” said Stephenson. “He pitched very well and didn’t make any mistakes.”
The Conqs (26-15) return to the diamond April 12 at Longview.
