DODGE CITY, Kan. – Dodge City men’s basketball coach Kyle Campbell is elated to announce the signing of James Newton.
Newton is a 5-foot-11 guard who hails from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville, Kan.
“James is an extremely athletic guard for his size and he can score the ball in many different ways.” Campbell said. “The one thing about James is he plays hard all the time, which is the kind of kid we want in our program.”

Newton will join the program as a dual-sport athlete for the Conquistadors and will play basketball and football. Newton is a three-time all-state selection in basketball, football and track – he’s the two-time defending state champion in the 4A 100-meter dash.
He completed his senior season in basketball with an impressive stat line. Newton averaged 18.7 points, 3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. In football he recorded 50 receptions for 895 yards and seven touchdowns.
Newton has been selected to play in the KBCA basketball all-star game and the Shrine Bowl for football.
James is the son of Andre Newton and Tara Newton. His high school basketball coach is Tyler Thompson and football coach is Murray Zogg.
