Baseball Season Comes to a Close at Region VI

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Dodge City baseball team saw its 2014 campaign come to a close in the opening round of NJCAA Region VI competition.

Cowley County topped the Conquistador in the opener 8-7 (10 Inn.) and dispatched DC3 in the elimination game 10-2.

The Conqs finish their season with a 31-27 overall record.

In the opener DC3 jumped on the Tigers early. Conner Koepp (Norman, Okla./Norman HS) opened the scoring with a RBI double and Trent Troxell hit a sacrifice fly and the Conqs led 2-0 after the first inning.

Damion Orr (Midwest City, Okla./Midwest City HS) made it 3-0 with a solo homerun and DC3 led 3-1 after three complete innings.

However, the Tigers (36-15) clawed back in the fourth inning with four runs and captured a 5-3 lead.

The teams traded runs in the seventh and eighth innings and Conqs tied it at 7-7 in the ninth.

However, the Tigers plated a run in the bottom of the tenth to secure the win.

Sam Brunner (Ft. Collins, Colo./Ft. Collins HS) started the game and earned a no decision. He tossed 5 2/3 innings and allowed eight hits, five runs and four walks and fanned two.

Giles Fox (Ashland, Kan./Ashland HS) was tagged with the loss. He threw 1 2/3 innings and allowed four hits and one run.

Jordan Doan (Dodge City, Kan./Dodge City HS) finished 1 for 5 with a pair of RBIs and Koepp batted 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs.

In game two the Tigers opened up an early 3-0 lead en route to the 10-2 decision.

Andrew Riddell (Nsw, Australia/Oakhill College) was tagged with the loss. He tossed five innings and allowed seven hits, six runs (two earned) and three walks and fanned two.

Parker Jones (The Colony, Texas/The Colony HS) and Doan each helped out with an RBI.
