General Information

INTRODUCTION

Students may receive a scholarship or grant for day classes, night classes, outreach classes, non-traditional studies classes or any combination thereof. Dodge City Community College students will normally receive only one of the scholarships or grants shown below. If applicants are offered more than one scholarship or grant, they must choose one to accept. The scholarships and grants available at Dodge City Community College are as follows:

APPLICATION DEADLINE AND ELIGIBILITY

Application deadline is April 1. Awards will be made based on the availability of funds. Scholarships/grants are awarded for one academic year beginning with the fall semester. However, failure to maintain specified academic and/or activity requirements and satisfactory academic progress may result in cancellation or non-renewal. A student who does not enroll in the fall semester may not receive the scheduled award for the spring semester. With the exception of the Senior Citizen Grant, all scholarships/grants are reserved for students pursuing a post-secondary degree or certificate and enrolled in classes required for his or her declared major.

Application for all scholarships/grants may be made by using the Dodge City Community College NEW Scholarship Application unless stated otherwise.

All grade point average requirements are based on a 4.0 scale.

SCHOLARSHIP/GRANT ACCEPTANCE

Scholarship and grant funds are limited. Offers will be mailed to the address listed on the application. Recipients must respond “Accept” or “Decline” within fifteen (15) days. Offers that have not been accepted and returned within fifteen (15) days will be canceled and awarded to another applicant. A student who accepts a scholarship/grant and later decides he or she will not attend Dodge City Community College is asked to immediately notify the Financial Aid Office so the funds may be awarded to another applicant.

SCHOLARSHIP/GRANT DISBURSEMENT

Scholarships/grants will be paid after the 20th day of class upon verification of attendance. Tuition scholarships/grants will be honored for the enrollment certified on the 20th Day Roster. Classes that are dropped at less than 100% during the refund period will not be considered for scholarship/grant. For example, a student who enrolls in 18 hours and then drops a three-hour course during 90% refund period and is certified for 15 hours on the 20th Day Roster will have the scholarship/grant honored for 15 hours. The student will be responsible for the tuition charges for the dropped class.

Scholarships/grants for out-of-state residents will be honored at the in-state tuition rate. The student will be responsible for tuition charges above the in-state equivalency. The Dodge City Community College Alumni-Booster Association pays an Athletic Grant to qualified athletes for the full out-of-state tuition charge.

Students receiving a Loan of Book scholarship/grant will receive a book voucher during the registration process beginning one week prior to the start of classes. Students must return their books at the end of the semester or become liable for the full cost. Students who withdraw during the semester may be responsible for the entire cost of their books.

A student account with Dodge City Community College is assessed tuition charges and fee charges based on enrollment. The student will be responsible for fee charges unless otherwise stated in the specific scholarship/grant.

SCHOLARSHIP/GRANT RENEWAL AND CONTINUATION

Applicants may be eligible to renew or continue scholarships/grants up to a total of 72 semester hours. Nursing, pre-medical, and pre-engineering applicants may renew up to a total of 84 semester hours. Remedial hours do not count toward an applicant's total eligible hours. Spring renewal will be based on an applicant's ability to maintain the required cumulative grade point average and satisfactory academic progress during the fall semester, other required criteria, and the availability of funds. Students have the right to appeal any Financial Aid policy, procedure, or decision by submitting a letter to the Dean of Students.

Students receiving an institutional scholarship/grant in the spring semester will be mailed a form to apply for a continuation of the scholarship/grant for the following academic year. Continuations are based on academic and/or activity requirements, satisfactory academic progress, availability of funds, and are subject to changes in terms established by Dodge City Community College. Students receiving an Endowment, Endowed, or Other Scholarship must reapply each year.

GRADUATING STUDENTS

Most scholarships/grants in this handbook require the student be enrolled in a minimum of twelve (12) semester hours. However, a student may not need 12 hours or 15 hours to complete a degree during the final semester of attendance. Special consideration will be given for scholarship/grant eligibility by contacting the Financial Aid Office after the Associate Registrar performs a degree check.
