Conqs Drop Opener in West Texas
Cisco, TX (August 28, 2010) - The Conquistador football team lost its season
opener 53-21 to Cisco JC on Saturday evening (August, 28). The
Conquistadors were outgained by the Wranglers in total offense as Cisco produce
462 yards of total offense compared to the Conquistador's 262 yards of total
offense. The young Conquistador team did not help itself by committing
five turnovers.
The Conquistadors fell behind early as it took the Wrangler offense only two
plays to score on its opening possession after a Dodge City three and out.
On the following possession, freshman quarterback, Bryan Parnes, was intercepted
by the Wrangler defense and Cisco would cash in on the turnover to take a 13-0
lead. On the ensuing drive, Parnes would leave the game with an injury
following a big hit by a Wrangler linebacker and be replaced by freshman Aaron
Hansen.
Cisco would go on to score four more times in the 1st half to take a
commanding 40-0 lead. On its final possession before halftime, the
Conquistador offense awoke and scored on a trick play. Cameron Hall caught
a 50 yard touchdown pass from Lane Kendall on a wide receiver pass to make it a
40-7 ballgame. Kendall, who was the Conquistadors starting quarterback
last season, shifted to a wide receiver in the practices leading up to the Cisco
game.
The Conquistadors finally found a rhythm in the second half of the game and
outscored the Wranglers 14-13.
Wide receiver Cameron Hall led the Conquistador offense with nine catches for
144 yards and three touchdown receptions.
The Conquistadors, who dropped to 0-1, will be on the road again this week.
They will head to Coffeyville, KS to take on the Red Ravens. Kickoff is
set for 7:00 PM at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, September 4th.
