Season Outlook

The Conquistadors will once again take a young team into the nine game regular season scheduled for 2011. The Conquistador will look to have freshmen step up once again in starting roles. The Conquistadors worked hard during the off season and competed well throughout the spring practices.

Not only will the Conquistadors have a young team, they will also see new faces along the sidelines and in the booth. Coach Bob Majeski will have an entirely new coaching staff for the 2011 season and will change his focus from the defensive side of the ball to directing the offense. David Snodgrass will take over the reins of the defense after spending the past three seasons at rival Garden City CC.

As is the case with any young squad, the Conquistadors will have to limit the amount of mistakes. According to Coach Majeski, “The offense will need to cut down on its turnovers and maintain possession.”

On defense, Coach Snodgrass will be looking to change the philosophy and culture of the defense. “We need to be fundamental against the run and the pass.” say Snodgrass. With an entirely new defensive staff, the Conquistadors will look to display an aggressive defensive scheme throughout the year.

The schedule will include five home games at Memorial Stadium. The Conquistadors will be tested on the road for four games. DCCC will once again face a grueling Jayhawk Conference schedule along with two non-conference games.

The Conquistadors will once again take part in the sixth installment of the Kansas-Texas challenge that pits the Kansas Jayhawk Conference against the Southwest Junior College Conference. This year, the Conquistadors will play Cisco JC to open the season. The Wranglers will be making a trip to Dodge City to open the 2011 season. The two teams matched in the 2005 C.H.A.M.P Heart of Texas Bowl game which was won by Cisco.

The Conquistadors will open up their rugged Jayhawk Conference schedule as they welcome the Coffeyville Red Ravens. Coffeyville is one of the top traditional JC football programs in the nation and the Conquistadors will look to start off the conference season on the right note.

After a bye week, the Conquistadors will make their first road trip of the season as the will head to Independence, KS. The Conquistadors will take Pirate team that made the playoffs last season.

Week five will see the Conquistadors take on last years NJCAA runner up, Butler Community College. The Grizzlies are always a tough game whether on the road or at home and the Conquistadors will really need to limit the mistakes.

The Conquistadors hit the road again as the will take on the Scotties of Highland CC. Two years ago, the Conquistadors traveled to Highland and picked up a road victory.

Week seven will see the Conquistadors head to the Salt City and play the Hutchinson Blue Dragons. The Conquistadors will then be home for the next two weeks. They will host the Fort Scott CC Greyhounds. The Conquistadors will then hoste Highway 54 rival Garden City CC. Dodge City will be looking to break an losing streak that dates back to the eighties to the Busters.

The Conquistadors will end the regular season by heading to Colorado on October 29th for a against Air Force Prep. This will be the second and final non-conference game for the Conquistadors. The Huskies have steadily been improving throughout the past couple of seasons.
