Personal Injury on Campus

Anyone who might have an accident, or witness an accident while on campus should complete an Accident Report form (See Appendix A). This form will be used to keep a record of all accidents for insurance purposes or filed with Workers Compensation on College employees who might have a work-related accident.

For work-related accidents, the completed form should be signed by the supervisor and the employee and then forwarded to the Business Office. It is important that all information is accurately completed. (back to top)

Reporting of College/Campus Thefts and/or Break-ins

Whenever criminal activity occurs in College facilities, whether on campus or off, such events are to be reported to one of the Deans or the President immediately. They will determine whether to involve the local police and what steps should be taken to minimize further threat to the affected area. In addition, a written report is to be prepared giving all known details, identifying witnesses, damage, thefts, and any other information which would be helpful in an investigation. Dollar values need to be identified for any materials stolen. This report should be submitted within 24 hours of the discovery of the criminal event and directed to the appropriate Dean, the President and the Director of Business Services. College faculty and staff are encouraged to keep their keys under personal control at all times. Everyone should remain security conscious at all times. (back to top)

After Hours Assistance

During working hours (8:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight, Monday through Friday) radio-units will be carried by maintenance personnel so that normal and emergency telephone inquiries can be answered expeditiously. The emergency number assigned to these radios is 227-9294.

During non-working hours (12:00 midnight to 8:00 a.m.), Monday through Friday) please call cellular phone (316) 338-3958 or pager 227-1410. (back to top)

Emergency Closing of the College

The President or his or her designee shall have the authority to discontinue instructional sessions because of extreme weather or other emergency conditions for the length of time the emergency exists. He shall make provisions to publicly announce such closing via available mass media communications. Refer to Board Policy 305.

The President's Office will announce over the local radio and television stations as early as possible, in cases of inclement weather, if classes are not to be held that day. These announcements will be repeated regularly thereafter until after the time for the starting of classes. These announcements will be telephoned to local radio and television stations by the President, or his designee. In case it is found necessary to close after classes have already begun an announcement of dismissal will be made on the local radio and television stations and repeated at intervals as long as the school and the stations think necessary. Board Policy 428 (back to top)

Emergency Procedures

It is impossible to predict and plan for all types of emergencies. To the extent possible, it is important for people to remain calm and think clearly. In general, during cases of emergency, students and staff should dial 911 to report the emergency and to get emergency personnel on the way to the college if necessary. Once assured that help is on the way and given instructions to hang up, students and staff should contact campus security by dialing extension 466.

The administrators of the respective areas of the campus will be in charge of any evacuation procedures that may need to be accomplished. These administrators are responsible for seeing that all handicapped persons are safely evacuated to the area listed below.
