Season Outlook
|
The 2006-2007 saw the Dodge City Community College Men’s golf team
capture its 4th conference title in the last seven years. The
2007-2008 squad will return four of the top six members from that
championship team. Leading the way for the Conquistadors will be Lars
Haakonsen, Trent White, Mike Rowe III, and Tommy Zuzelski.
The 2007-2008 season will have the Conquistadors looking for their 5th
KJCCC Championship in the last eight years. The team will also be
looking to keep their streak of being nationally ranked for the 16
straight year. The Conquistadors will have hopes of making the NJCAA
National Championships to be played at the Robert Trent Jones Golf
Trail River Course in the state of Alabama. It will be the 18th
straight year the Conqs have been to the national championships.
2006-2007 season saw the Conquistadors place three players on the
Kansas Community College Conference All-Conference team. Ryan
Robertson (2nd individually) and Lars Haakonsen (3rd individually),
along with Trent White (Honorable Mention) Their three selections
brings the total to 50 All-Conference honors during the past 17 years.
The Conquistadors have had the most players earn All-Conference honors
than any other school in the last eight years.
The 2006-2007 season also brought other honors for the Conquistadors.
They finished the season with a GPA of 3.58 earning, not only KJCCC
All-Academic Team, but also the NJCAA National All-Academic Team of
the Year. It marked the 17th straight season of a 3.0 or better team
GPA.The 2007-2008 team will
be lead by the four returning players: Lars Haakonsen, Olso, Norway;
Tent White, Dodge City, Kansas; Mike Rowe III, Wichita, Kansas, and
Tommy Zuzelski, Syracuse, Kansas. Their experience and leadership,
along with their playing ability, will be a big factor in the Conqs
quest for another conference championship. Help will come in the likes
of five new players. Henrik Holm (Olso, Norway), Zach Henderson
(Pryor, Oklahoma), Cam Hershiser (Lawrence, Kansas), Tyler Henderson
(Liberal, Kansas), and Ryan Kellenbarger (Wichita, Kansas) These five
new members bring with them talent and successful playing experience
that will make for a very competitive Conquistador squad.
The fall portion of the 2007-2008
has the Conquistadors in third place entering into spring. Leading the
way is freshmen Henrik Holm and sophomore Tommy Zuzelski. The
Conquistadors have their work cut out for them in hopes of wining a
second conference championship in a row. The Conqs have spent the off
season working hard both on improving their golf talents and in
getting themselves ready physically for a tough second half.
