Season Outlook

2009-2010

The 2008-2009 was a season in which the Conquistadors finished 2nd in the conference and 16th at the NJCAA National Championship. It also marked the 17th straight year the school finished the season ranked in the national poll (10th).

The 2009-2010 season will have the Conquistadors looking to win their 6th KJCCC Team Championship in the last ten years. The team's nationally ranked streak will also be on the line. If the team qualifies for the NJCAA National Division I Championship it will mark the 20th straight year the Conquistadors have competed in the tournament.

The 2008-2009 season saw the Conquistadors place two players on the All-KJCCC Conference team. Anders Engell(1st Team), Truls Hilde( Honorable Mention). The selections makes 55 Conquistadors that have been selected to the All-Conference teams in the past 19 years. Dodge City leads all other conference schools in all-conference selections. Anders Engell selection to the Ping Golf Coaches Association All-American Team (2nd Team) is the second straight season that a Conq golfer has earned such a honor Three members of the 2008-2009 team gained athletic scholarships to continue playing college golf, Anders Engell (Wichita State University); Zac Henderson (Rodgers State University); and Truls Hilde (Faulkner  University).

The 2008-2009 team again showed that not only are the Conquistadors very good golfers, but also outstanding in the classroom. The team earned the NJCAA National Academic Golf  Team of the Year Award again by earning a 3.56 GPA. It was the third straight year the Conquistadors have won the award.

How good will the 2009-2010 team be?  For the first time in the 20 years that Casey Malek has been the head coach the Conquistadors will only have one returning player with any college tournament experience. With the lost of four graduating sophomores from last year's team and the four-year transferring of three freshmen the 2009-2010 squad will have nine first time college players. The nine new players, however, bring with them talent and great work ethic. All of the newcomers were the best players on their high schools teams and all had outstanding summer tournament results

How will 2009-2010 be for the Conquistadors? A schedule that has the team playing against the best teams in junior college golf as well as a always tough conference schedule should have the Conquistadors making their 20th straight trip to the National Championships.
