2010-2011Recap
The 2010-2011 season
saw the Conquistadors finished
2nd. in
the conference and 14th at the NJCAA National Championship. It also
marked the 21st straight year the school competed at the NJCAA National
Golf Championships. The Conqs also finished the season ranked in
the national poll (13th). The Conquistadors won two tournaments and had
five top ten finishes.
The 2010-2011
season saw the Conquistadors place three players on the All-KJCCC
Conference team: Chien Hau Tan (1st Team), Alex Tiong (1st Team), and
Ross Milne (2nd Team). The selections makes 61Conquistadors that have
been selected to the All-Conference teams in the past 21 years. Alex Tiong was the conference individual champion winning two
tournament during the conference season. He also was a member of the
NJCAA District III Team and was an ALL-Region VI Selection Ross Milne
finished tied for fourth at the NJCAA 2011 National Championship earning
him first team NJCAA All-American Status, while Alex Tiong earned
Honorable Mention for his 14th place finish.
Dodge
City leads all other conference schools in all-conference selections. Chien Hau Tan's
was selected to the Ping Golf Coaches Association
All-American Team (1st Team) for the second straight year while Alex
Tiong was selected to the second team . Alex also was selected to the Ping Golf
Coaches Association All-Freshmen Team.
Sophomores Chien
Hau Tan, Ross Milne, and Trent Specht will continue their playing careers at
Ashford University. Austin Maxwell will be playing at Fort Hays State University
The 2010-2011 team again showed that not only are the Conquistadors very good golfers,
but also outstanding in the classroom. The team earned the NJCAA
Academic Team-of-The Year for the fourth year in the past five. Milne,
and Specht were named NJCAA Academic All-Americans
2011-2012
Preview
The 2011-2012 season
will have the Conquistadors under the direction of new coach Chris
Robinson, who takes over for long time Coach Casey Malek. Malek was
named full-time Athletic Director. The 2011-2012 team will be looking
for the school's sixth KJCCC Championship. The team's nationally ranked streak will also be
on the line. If the team qualifies for the NJCAA National Division I
Championship it will mark the 22nd straight year the Conquistadors have
competed in the tournament.
The
2011-2012 season brings high expectations as the Conquistadors will be a
sophomore dominated team, with seven players having college
experience. Alex Tiong is the reigning KJCCC Individual Champion and
a Ping All-American
Coach Robinson signed
four new players for the
2011-2012 season., Indian Hills transfer Taylor Onley (Stillwater,
Oklahoma), Stillwater native Parker Dolezal, Jacob Hughes (Conq team
member in 2009-2010) and Mariano Rossi, Buenos Aires, Argentina
How will 2011-2012 be for
the Conquistadors? A schedule that finds the Conquistadors teeing it up
with some of the best junior college teams in the country and a
sophomore dominated team with plenty of playing experience, should have
the Conqs searching for their 22nd consecutive trip to the NJCAA National
Golf Championships.
