At least one of our volunteers is active everyday.  Below are some of the jobs that our volunteers do.  See something you do and didn't realize you could report it?  Call us if you see something you think you would enjoy doing at 227-7077.

 

Answer Phone - Office Clerk  

Basic receptionist duties, answer the phone, typing, filing.

 

Big Brothers / Big Sisters

Mentor a child.

 

Birthday Calls

Call volunteers to wish them a happy birthday, bring a smile to their face.

 

Board Members

Board Members of non profit organizations

 

Boy Scouts Troop Leaders

Lead the different troops in activities.

 

Casa Child Advocate

Specially trained Child Advocates to work with children, appointed by the court.

 

Deliver Mail

Deliver mail to residents in nursing homes

 

Deliver Meals

Deliver Meals on Wheels meals to shut-ins.

 

Friendly Visits

 Visit and spend time with nursing home residents, hospital patients, and shut-ins. This could possibly be the most important job we have.

 

Girl Scout Troop Leaders

Lead the different troops in activities.

 

Hospice volunteers

Spend time with the families and patients of hospice, provide respite care so that the families may have a break.  Training is provided by Hospice of the Prairie.

 

Hospitality Cart  

take the hospitality cart around the hospital for the patients and loved ones.

 

Interpreters

 Interprets for those in our communities that do not speak English.

 

Library Aide

 Provide assistance in the Library.

 

Mailings

Prepare materials and stuff envelopes for a mass mailing

 

Minor House Maintenance

 Take down and put up storm windows and screens, minor painting, put in and take out air conditioners, etc.

 

Mowing and Yard Work

 Mowing, weed eating, trimming, etc.

 

Nursing Home Activities

 Play music, help set up and clean up for coffee time, play music, bingo, etc.

 

Senior Citizen's Assistance

 Light housework, balance the check book, change light bulbs, etc.

 

Sewing, Knitting, Crochet

  Make lap blankets, baby quilts, etc for nursing homes and the Crisis Center.

 

Shopping

 Take a list and go shopping for shut-ins and deliver to them, the volunteer will be reimbursed by the shut-in.

 

Teacher or School Aide

 Read to students, help the teachers, tutor the students, etc.

 

Transporting Seniors

 Transporting senior for both medical and non-medical needs, shopping, errands, etc.

 

Tutoring

Tutor both students and adults.


 

 

Senior Corps taps the skills, talents, and experience of more than half a million Americans age 55 and older to meet community needs in education, the environment, public safety, homeland security, and other areas. Senior Corps is administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service, which also oversees AmeriCorps and Learn and Serve America.
