The Campus Security Division is responsible to the Associate Dean of Students and the Dean of Students. The department employs eight security officers to provide protection and services. Officers also provide parking enforcement and crowd control at special events. Every officer is trained to provide emergency first aid and CPR. Certain officers have also received additional training in emergency medical care as first responders and EMTs, and are certified by the State of Kansas every year. The campus Security Coordinator is required to have previous law enforcement or security experience. In-service training consists of a 40-hour training block that covers basic security techniques, patrol, report writing, and other related subjects. Monthly updates regarding security and law enforcement, recent court decisions, trends in crime and new advancements in security techniques and equipment are reviewed.
The Campus Security Coordinator, who maintains a cooperative relationship with all local, state and federal public safety agencies, investigates all criminal incidents and accidents. In addition to accident and criminal investigations, this cooperation includes training programs and special events coordination.

Security in Residence Halls
All residence hall rooms and campus telephones have emergency 911 access. Students living on campus may contact the Residence Hall staff member on duty. On-duty personnel are posted on housing bulletin boards. Fire service is provided by the Dodge City Fire Department. All buildings on campus including the residence halls have fire alarm systems with accessible fire extinguishers. All residence halls have peepholes in the doors. Students are asked to see who is knocking before opening the door. Exterior doors of Shelden Hall and Coleman Webb Hall are locked at 12:00 a.m. Resident Assistants are in contact with campus security by two-way radio and cell phone. All doors are controlled with a swipe-style electronic card-key system (including proximity readers at entry/exit points to lobbies).
