Smith begins his 16th season as Head Coach, and 20th overall
with the Dodge City Community College Softball Team. His 14
year record stands at 420 wins against 290 losses, which
includes three conference championships (1991, 1999, 2003),
two Region VI championships (2000, 2002), one West
Sub-Regional Championship (2004), three conference runner-up
finishes (1994, 1998 2005), two Region VI Runner-up finishes
(1997, 1998), and two trips to the NJCAA Softball World
Series (2000, 2002) which included a 4th place finish at the
2000 World Series held in Kissimmee, Florida.
In 1997, Smith was named Coach of the Year in the Western
Division of the Jayhawk Conference, and in 2000, Smith and
his coaching staff was named NFCA West Region Coach of the
Year and a finalist for the 2000 National Coach of the Year.
Coach Smith, who graduated from Hoisington High School in
1976, played football and ran track at HHS. After
graduation, Smith attended Barton County Community College
for two years, then transferred to Bethany College in
Lindsborg Kansas and in 1981 received is Bachelor Degree in
Elementary and Secondary Education. While at Bethany, Smith
was a student assistant in both the football and softball
programs.
After graduating from Bethany, Smith went back home and
coached both football and wrestling at Hoisington High
School, then in 1985 made the move to Dodge City Community
College to become the assistant softball coach under the
direction of Dale Munson.
After Munson resigned in May of 1991, Smith was named the
head coach of the Lady Conquistador softball program.
While at DCCC, Smith has had 72 players receive
All-Conference recognition; 44 players receive All-Region VI
honors; five have received All-American recognition, and one
was named to the NJCAA National Tournament All-Tournament
team. The DCCC Softball program has also produced 25
academic All-American players in 15 years.
Smith has one daughter, Chantel, age 13, and both of them
enjoy dirt track racing, working on the lawn, and hanging
out at the pool. |

Coach Bolton begins her first year as an Assistant Coach at
Dodge City Community College. A graduate of Widefield High
School in Colorado Springs, CO, Coach Bolton began her
playing career at Seward County CC. While at Seward, she
earned 2nd team All-Conference honors and 2nd team
All-District honors as a sophomore. Coach Bolton then
continued her playing career at Friends University where she
was a two time 2nd team All-Conference Short-Stop and a part
of two conference championships. After her playing days,
Coach Bolton joined the Friends coaching staff as a student
assistant coach. |
