Lady Conqs sign with Mayville State University

Lady Conq softball players, Brianne Scott and Ashley VandeVeen, have both signed with Mayville State University in Mayville, North Dakota to continue their softball careers. Both players were two year starters for head coach Howie Smith. This past season the Lady Conqs finished with a 11-31 record and fell to #5 Cowley College in the first round of the Region VI Division II tournament.

This past season, both players saw a majority of their time in the pitcher’s circle. VandeVeen led the Lady Conqs in wins (7) and innings pitched (132.2). Scott was second on the team in win (3), innings pitched (94) and led the team in strikeouts (47).

Brianne also saw significant time in the field as well. After being a starter at 3rd base as a freshman, Scott saw her role transform into a true utility player this year. This season she saw action not only at pitcher but also spent time in the outfield and 2nd base. She hit .261 on the season and was third on the team in RBI.’s (14).

Ashley also significant time at the plate as she served as the teams designated player when she was not pitching. This past season she hit .274 and led the team in home runs (3).

Mayville State is an NAIA institution that competes in the Dakota Athletic Conference. Currently the Comets are 18-32. Mayville’s head coach Melissa Majerus is currently in her third year at the helm of the Comet softball program.
