Dr.
Richard K. Burke, DCCC President
At Dodge City Community College,
intercollegiate athletic programs provide
opportunities for our student athletes and fans of all ages to share
and support a common goal. These athletic programs contribute to the
personal development of students. Our emphasis is on developing
successful student athletes who compete in the classroom as well as
they do in athletic competitions. DCCC coaches and student athletes
are expected to conduct themselves in a responsible and ethical manner
whether on or off the field of competition. Our record of success has
placed DCCC athletes above the national averages in academic
performance, facilitating their smooth transition into Division I
college and university athletic programs.
As a native of Dodge City and a former student athlete, I have been an
enthusiastic fan of the Conquistadors since I was a small boy. I am
delighted that I returned to my hometown after 30 years and I am proud
to be a participant on the “Conq Team”.
DCCC continues its proud tradition of success! With Coach Marcus
Garstecki at the helm as Associate Athletic Director and Head Football
Coach, we have assembled a very talented coaching staff. Last fall,
Coach Garstecki led DCCC to the Heart of Texas Bowl game! We are
excited about the progress of our men’s and women’s soccer program led
by Coaches Aaron Aberg and Bernie Stiles. DCCC baseball is much
improved under the guidance of Coach Phil Stephenson. The men’s golf
team coached by Casey Malek, made its 16th consecutive trip to
Nationals Championships. Our women’s golf team, coached by Ed Bethea,
went to Nationals the last five years. Our women’s volleyball team,
coached by Kelley Bickham, is continuing to build a winning tradition.
DCCC Athletic Director and Head Softball coach, Howie Smith, has led
the DCCC softball team to the National Tournament two out of the past
six years. Our basketball programs have continued to excel under the
leadership of coaches Hoberecht and Turgeon. Coach Hoberecht led his
men’s team, which finished Co-Champions of the Western Division. For
the third time in the past six years, DCCC played in the Region 6
Final Four. Coach Turgeon’s Lady Conqs have won over 20 games per
season the past four years. The DCCC Rodeo Team continues to excel
under the guidance of Randy Mitchell, who has developed All-Americans.
On behalf of DCCC and the Board of Trustees, I express our
appreciation to the Alumni Booster Association, Endowment Association,
DCCC Foundation, fans and advertisers for their efforts to continue
the winning tradition of the Conquistadors! |
