Services Offered Through DCCC TRIO

 

Tutoring - Tutoring Services are provided free of charge to students on an "as needed" basis in a variety of required classes.  Tutors, who have demonstrated academic excellence, are hired by the TRIO Staff to assist with the following: understanding course content, preparing for exams, and managing study time.
Tutoring can be on an individual basis or in study groups. 

Career Planning is offered to students who are undecided about their future college major or career choice.  The Choice and Enhanced Job Analyzer Programs are available to aid in the career planning process.

Personal Counseling - Personal Counseling is provided by qualified personal counselors free of charge to students in the program. If you find yourself in need of personal counseling or know someone who might need counseling please contact your TRIO office and they can set you up with a counselor.

Scholarships ETS students may receive scholarships for college classes taken during their junior and senior high school years.

Academic & Post-Secondary Advisement - Counselors provide pre-registration advisement, drop/add counseling and assistance in developing realistic class schedules and course loads.  Counselors monitor the academic progress of all participants periodically and conduct individual conferences to keep students informed of their progress and academic status.

Financial Aid Advisement The TRIO staff is knowledgeable about and can assist with filing Federal Financial Aid forms and some local scholarship opportunities. TRIO Staff also participates in Financial Aid nights at area high schools to assist parents and students.

Cultural Activities - Cultural enrichment activities are planned each semester and during the summer to expose  participants to new experiences and broaden the students opportunities.  Trips include theatrical and musical productions, museums, restaurants, and other events.

Workshops - Throughout the year, workshops are offered to enhance the academic and personal growth of students in the program.  These workshops may include Career Exploration, Test Taking, Study Skills, ACT Preparation, Financial Aid, Motivation, Social Skills, and Communication.

 

Laptop Loan Program - The ETS staff provides laptop computers for use by ETS students at every high school we service. Software includes the Microsoft Office Professional Suite, Choices, and Enhanced Job Analyzer.

 

College Campus Visits - During each semester and during the summer, the ETS Staff sponsors campus visits to enable ETS students to become familiar with a variety of public and private universities, colleges, community colleges, and vocational/technical schools. Campus visits are normally combined with visits to other educational, cultural, or historical sites.
