FAQ: What is the difference between a league and a camp?
A camp will teach the mechanical and technical aspect of a
particular skill so that it may be used in real life play. It
is extremely important to attend camps because some of the skills
learned are forgotten from being unused. That is why going to
a camp every year is necessary. Athletes of all calibers will
benefit from the camps! The more experience you are getting
the better!
A league is a fairly new concept...especially for the younger ages.
Because of that a lot of people will shy away from leagues and stick
to camps. Please, don't let this be you! There
are pages of reasons why playing in a league is the most beneficial
thing any athlete can do, but to sum it up, John Kessel from the USA
Volleyball coaching staff teaches, "The game teaches the game."
Furthermore, USA volleyball recommends all athletes of all ages, at
any possible time, to play in teams of 2 vs. 2, 3 vs. 3, but no more
than 4 vs. 4. Why? The most important skill in
volleyball is being able to read and anticipate where the ball is
going to go. Furthermore, Mr. Kessel and his staff recommend,
if possible, to keep practicing the skill in game-like
situations. Camps are large number of girls hitting the
ball back and forth to each other in a straight line; whereas, the
game of volleyball is how to get the ball coming from one angle to
the other angle. Don't misunderstand the fact that camps are
extremely important in order to learn new skills, but where camps
will teach the fundamentals of playing solid volleyball, leagues
teach athletes when/how to use the skills properly.
A COMBINATION OF CAMPS AND LEAGUES ARE THE UPMOST IMPORTANCE FOR
THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN ATHLETE IN THE SPORT OF VOLLEYBALL!!
FAQ: What is the
difference between a camp and a clinic?
Camps are for athletes where they can learn correct technique,
mechanics and form.
Clinics, traditionally, are for coaches who want to learn more about
coaching and the game of volleyball; however, more and more parents
and past players are signing up! This is a great opportunity
for coaches, parents, and/or players. Whether you want to
learn more about one area or if you want to increase your ability to
be a more effective coach for your athletes or if you are a parent
and you want to learn why "your crazy coach" does something or if
you are an current/past athlete that wants to eventually coach!
FAQ: What is a good cost for a camp?
There really isn't a right or wrong answer to this. It
really depends on the staff of the camp, the skills covered, and
most importantly how many sessions. This is a good way to
compare the cost of camps to each other. That isn't to say
that only one camp is necessary...the more camps attended, the more
touches the athlete gets on the ball. The more touches they
get, the better they will be!
FAQ: Can I play
in both leagues if I am 12?
Yes, most definitely you may play in both leagues if you are 12
years old. More touches you get the better you will be and
that is why this league exists! You will have to sign up
separately and pay for both leagues.
FAQ: Can I play
in the league if I am an '08 senior?
Yes, you may play...just don't get senioritis and not show
up...there are a lot of people counting on you!
