Dodge City Community College post player Aroha Jennings
announced Wednesday that she has signed to continue her collegiate basketball
career with the University of Memphis.
Jennings said she made her decision after making an official visit to the
Conference USA school during spring break.
“I chose Memphis because they really, really wanted me and I figured I’d want to
go to a school that I knew would take care of me and really wanted me,” Jennings
said. “I took a visit there and I loved the coaches and the players and the
city. I felt comfortable and I feel this is a good decision for me.”
Jennings averaged 16.4 points and 5.8 rebounds a game for the Conquistadors. She
averaged 53 percent in field goal percentage (43.8 percent in three-point
attempts), and also led the team in steals (60). She was named a selection to
the first team of the Jayhawk Conference-Western Division and Region VI.
“Memphis was on her early and stayed on her and kept recruiting her,” said Dodge
City head coach Jim Turgeon. “She also wanted to go a bigger city and Memphis is
a bigger city. I think she’s happy.”
The Tigers were 3-25 in the 2005-06 season, 1-15 in Conference USA.
The post player is the second Conqs player to sign with a four-year school.
Shooting guard Beth Troutt signed with Fordham University in the fall semester.
