Conqs’ women improve to 3-0 with
road win
The Dodge City Community College women’s basketball team raised its season
opening winning streak to three with a 77-49 victory over the Sterling College
Warriors junior varsity team.
It was another strong defensive showing for the Conqs: allowing the Warriors to
make only 27.7 percent of their shots (18-of-65) in the game.
“I thought we were real good defensively most of the game,” said Dodge City head
coach Jim Turgeon. “We again got to a slow start offensively, but we played
better in the second half.”
The Conqs shot 24-of-55 in the win. Guard Seda Erdogan led Dodge City in scoring
with 19 points, while Beth Troutt added 18 and Patrice McKenzie 15. Chanelle
Freeman led the Conqs in rebounding with 17 boards, while McKenzie grabbed eight
more.
The Conqs will finally get to play on the Civic Center floor this weekend with
two games in the Lady Conqs Classic. Dodge City will play Tabor College’s junior
varsity at 8 p.m. Friday, and will play Kansas Wesleyan’s junior varsity at 8
p.m. Saturday.
“The girls are very excited to play at home and I’m pretty excited to play at
home myself,” Turgeon said. “We only lost one game at home last year and it’s
always good to play in front of the home crowd.”
Pratt will open the Classic against KWU’s JV at 6 p.m. Friday, and will play
Tabor’s JV at 6 p.m. Saturday.
