2009-10 SEASON OUTLOOK

For the 2009-2010 season the Lady Conqs look to make competitive strides with the return of sophomores Marcella Sedoc, a 5’5” point guard from the W.J. Ritfeld School in Paramaribo, Suriname, and Robin Parker, a 5’9” forward who prepped at Vocational High School in Chicago, IL. Marcella started 26 games at the point guard position as freshman, missing four due to injury, averaging 6.35 points and 4.35 rebounds per game. Robin started 28 games during her frosh campaign leading the team in scoring at 12.3 points and pulling down 7.3 rebounds per game. The play of these two sophomores is critical to the success of the Lady Conqs in the non-conference as well as during Jayhawk Conference competition. “We have seen tremendous growth in both Marcella and Robin from last season into our preparation for the upcoming year. Both of these young women have worked hard to improve their basketball skills, as well as their work ethic and overall attitude. We expect big things from both our sophomores!” stated Head Coach Steve High.

They will be supported by seven freshmen who like all first year players, will be as good as their ability to grasp the intellectual and physical demands of the college game and as well as their ability to stay healthy. Newcomers to the Lady Conq program are Treshay Adams a 5’7” versatile guard/forward from Houston’s Lamar Consolidated High School, Brooke Boyd a 5’2” guard from Spearville, KS High School, Kayla Jensen a 5’4” combo guard from Cache, Oklahoma High School, Yomaira Rosas 5’7” guard/forward from Cimarron, KS High School, Chelsea Ryan a 5’6” guard/forward from Colmesneil, TX, and Darra Stithem a 5’7” guard/forward from Hoxie, KS high school, and Shamira Tolbert-Wright, a 6’1” center,  who attended St. Mary’s High School in Stockton, CA. This group of freshmen comes into DCCC highly touted having earned numerous all-state and all-conference accolades.

“The great thing about the start of a new season is all teams are in the same situation, undefeated, the challenge is working to stay that way! It is always an exciting time and we enter into 2009-2010 with anticipation of a much improved result over last season. We have seen signs that this will be a more close-knit team than we have had in the last two years and that should help us have success and build momentum during the non-conference portion of our schedule and gain some confidence going into Jayhawk play. With two solid returning players and with the addition of highly successful high school players in our freshmen class we hope it will translate into many victories during the year. The challenge of having a successful season is always difficult because of the outstanding quality competition throughout our schedule but we will put forth great effort to make DCCC and our fans proud,” said Coach High.
